God & Morality
It is a popular notion to relate the idea of God to Morality. He is supposedly all powerful and all loving and according to DCT what he commands is right/moral. The problem of evil however argues that if God is all powerful and all loving, and evil does in fact exist then there must not be an all powerful and all loving god because if he was all powerful he would not allow evil to exist because he loves us and evil is a hardship to mankind. I personally reject these two premises that God is all powerful and all loving but for the sake of argument I will accept them. Doing so leads me in two directions. The first being that since God is all powerful he allows evil to exist, why? I can not be sure of this but i assume that he allows it to exist because he provides protection from evil through worship and religion because he loves us. Also since he loves us he gave us free will and we therefore have the power to choose whether or not to allow evil upon us. The other direction however does not involve free will or the actions of mankind, it deals with the evil that exists naturally in the world, ie. Hurricanes, miscarriages, earthquakes, etc.. Once again i can not be sure why God allows these evils to exist but i will assume that they are necessary to maintain a balance in population so that those who live can survive off the limited resources that our planet provides for us. Because he loves us he wants us to live well. But if he was all powerful why wouldn’t he provide more resources so nobody had to die….? To this i have no response.
